Cranborne Audio has released the 500R8 and 500Adat rack interfaces.
Imagined as the centrepiece of a modern studio, the 500R8 is a 28-input/30-output USB audio interface that combines a 500 series rack with high-performance AD/DA conversion and extensive connectivity. The unit features an 8:2 high-headroom analogue summing mixer, comprehensive monitor controller with talkback facility, 16-input/16-output Adat interface, as well as a zero-latency analogue artist mixer with reference-quality, high-powered headphone outputs.
The 500Adat will increase the I/O count of any Adat-equipped audio interface, providing 8-input/8-output expansion that combines a 500 series rack with high-performance AD/DA conversion and Adat I/O. This allows integration of the 500 series format into any studio set-up using the Adat I/O on the back of many popular audio interfaces.
The 500Adat features analogue essentials that unite digital and analogue production workflows such as an 8:2 analogue summing mixer, zero-latency artist mixer with two reference-quality headphone outputs, and Adat and SMUXII/IV transmission to enable operation at sample rates up to 192kHz.
While the 500R8 and 500Adat offer much of the same technical performance, they are designed to satisfy two different applications. The 500R8 is primarily designed for musicians, engineers, and producers wishing to upgrade/replace an existing audio interface and build an analogue/digital hybrid studio around the 500 series format. The 500R8 connects directly to a PC/Mac via USB to record 28 and playback 30 channels of audio, and can also be used for mobile recording, as each 500 series slot can be completely configured and customised to suit the requirements of the recording session.
The 500Adat was designed for users looking to expand studio connectivity and adopt the 500 series format. With all major audio interfaces offering Adat connectivity that is often under-used, 500Adat connects directly to Adat ports to increase the I/O count of the system, also integrating the 500 series format into the workflow.
500R8 and 500Adat can also be connected together to create an integrated analogue/digital hybrid system capable of using all 16 available 500 series slots during recording, mixing, and summing.
