NTP Technology has brought AES67 capability to its Penta 720 modular broadcast audio router/audio distribution interface.
The Penta 720 is a compact 1.5k2 broadcast audio router which can be configured with a wide range of interface cards such as Madi, AES, analogue, SDI embedder/de-embedder and Dante audio-over-IP.
‘Many broadcasters are transitioning to an IP-based infrastructure and even more are looking to go that way,’ says NTP Technology Business Development Manager, Jan Lykke. ‘The Penta 720 already supports Dante audio-over-IP; the addition of AES67 makes it possible to use it in both Dante- and AES67-based solutions simultaneously.
‘Dante provides a very easy, flexible and powerful way of building an audio-over-IP infrastructure. However, there is also a requirement amongst end-users for an open standard to interconnect to non-Dante devices. This is where we believe AES67 is the ideal solution. For that reason, we have joined the Media Networking Alliance which is promoting the AES67 standard.’
AES67 is a Layer 3 protocol suite based on existing standards and is designed to allow interoperability between various IP-based audio networking systems such as Ravenna, Livewire, Q-Lan and Dante.
