Tascam has released V2.0 firmware for the DR-10L Pro Ultra-Compact 32-bit Float Audio Field Recorder with Lavalier Mic, allowing the recorder to accept LTC (Linear Time Code) Jam Sync.
Jam Sync is the industry term for ‘jamming’ time code into a device so that one can link a recorder with various time code generators. Version 2.0 firmware enables time code generators to jam sync to the DR-10L Pro by connecting the output of a time code generator to the DR-10L Pro via a 3.5mm stereo mini cable.
Before recording has begun, the operator must attach a 3.5mm stereo mini cable to the TC generator’s TC output port. Next, the lavalier mic from the DR-10L Pro must be disconnected and the 3.5mm stereo cable for the TC generator connected in its place. Once LTC is synchronised to the DR-10L Pro, the user unplugs the cable and reattaches the TM-10L lavalier microphone to to start recording. A setting titled LTC Sync has been added to the DR-10L Pro menu. There is no limit to the number of DR-10L Pros that can be connected for LTC sync.
After the recorded video and audio files have been imported into the user’s preferred video editing software, the time code can be used to align the files with great ease. This dramatically saves time, which is frequently the most valuable commodity an editor has.
‘Previously, the only way to sync any sort of time code with the Tascam DR-10L Pro was by using the AK-BT1 Bluetooth dongle, which is only compatible with Atomos UltraSync Blue products,’ say Tascam Product Specialist Sean Daily. ‘By enabling the DR-10L Pro to interface with various time code devices via this update and existing input, the DR-10L Pro is far more accessible to filmmakers, content creators and others.’
