JBL Professional has unveiled the 3 Series studio monitor, introducing its patent-pending Image Control Waveguide.
Aimed at music, post and broadcast production operations in stereo and surround-sound formats, the 3 Series comprises two models – the LSR305, 5-inch powered monitor and the LSR308, 8-inch powered monitor. The LSR305 has a frequency response of 43Hz to 24 kHz and a peak SPL of 108dB, while the LSR308 has a response of 37Hz to 24kHz and a peak SPL of 112dB.
Calling on technology developed for JBL’s flagship M2 Master Reference Monitor, the 3 Series uses Image Control Waveguide along with a ‘long-throw woofer’ and damped woven composite tweeter. JBL’s proprietary Slip Stream low-frequency port works with the woofer to enhance the bass response at all playback levels. Class-D amplifiers deliver high output and dynamic headroom.
Each 3 Series model incorporates a range of features to integrate the loudspeakers into a broad range of environments including multiple inputs, a detented volume control and an input sensitivity switch for compatibility with professional and consumer equipment. Low-frequency and high-frequency Trim switches allow the loudspeaker’s response to be tailored to compensate for room acoustics, programme material and personal preference.
‘Our goal with the 3 Series is to bring a new level of performance and accuracy to the market at most affordable price points,’ says JBL Professional Recording & Broadcast Marketing Senior Manager, Peter Chaikin. ‘The Image Control Waveguide gives 3 Series a dramatic advantage. It is a remarkable piece of engineering allowing us to deliver a loudspeaker that is more revealing and engaging to listen to. Customers will find, with this waveguide, the 3 Series loudspeakers provide a truly enjoyable listening experience.’
The loudspeakers is ready to ship at list prices of US$199.99 and US$325 for the LSR305 and LSR308, respectively.
