Telefunken is introducing a ‘reggae’ version of its universal dynamic cardioid mic. The M81 Reggae, which sports a red, yellow and green paint finish and a Lion of Judah graphic, is a tribute to reggae artist Toots Hibberts of Toots & The Maytals – the man who coined the word reggae.
In comparison with the standard Telefunken M80, the M81 retains minimal proximity effect, high feedback rejection and articulate mid-range. However, the top end is tailored to yield a flatter overall frequency response for lighter sounding voices, electric guitar, percussion and rack toms.
The performance of M80 has been likened to that of a condenser microphone and has become a regular sight in vocal and snare drum applications, especially in the touring and live performance. As an alternative to the extended top end capabilities of the M80, the M81 is pitched to be ‘a bit less specialised, giving the microphone more universal application ability’.
Designed for stage and studio use, the M81 is constructed to survive the rigors of use on the road.
The package, including the microphone, mic clip and leather carrying bag is priced at US$349.
